Match Report PH v Spon Gate

In the first round of the Harry Shaw Cup, Park Hill travelled away to a strong Spon Gate side who previously went very far in a national competition! As we arrived, some of the children were surprised at the size of the pitch with it being less than half the size of ours!

After a quick warm up, it was time for kick off! Park Hill were very much caught off guard and after 5 minutes we found ourselves 2-0 down to some soft goals. Things were bleak, but the boys worked hard to get themselves into the game, but as they were getting a foothold, a fantastic strike from the Spon Gate no. 10 put the hosts 3-0 up. Spirits didn’t dampen and again the team worked hard and created lots of chances. Eventually, their hard work paid off with a goal and again the team grew into the game and took control. Plenty of chances came our way, however it wasn’t our day.

The second half saw Park Hill dominate possession and create lots of chances, but a strong finish from Spon Gate saw them deserved winners of the game. A very tough first game and plenty to take on board for the next game. Fingers crossed in the friendly v Finham on Monday we can get a good start to the game!

As always, a huge thank you to friends and family for all of your support and getting the boys to the game. Onwards and upwards!

Squad: Reece Cleaver, Elliot Watts, Alfie Williams, Ollie Brown, Kian Lewis, Alex Good, Jake Fletcher, Charlie Blakemore, Lewis Swaffield.
